An expensive, well-reviewed air purifier was running in the room. Someone asked the question that changed the rest of our lives: how does it actually know?
The answer was a timer. Not a sensor. Not a measurement of what Delhi's air had done to the filter over the past three months.
In heavy-smog months, families were replacing too late and breathing through exhausted media. In cleaner weeks, they were replacing too early and overpaying. The green light looked reassuring, but it was blind to reality.
